Our Voice, Our Vote Arizona Receives $100,000 Grant from Yes on Prop 139: Arizona for Abortion Access

OVOV AZ is one of 13 organizations to receive this grant to collectively knock 5 million doors and support get-out-the-vote efforts across the state

Phoenix, Ariz. (Oct. 22, 2024) — In the final weeks leading up to the 2024 general election, Our Voice Our Vote Arizona received $100,000 from Arizona for Abortion Access to educate voters about voting Yes on Prop 139, the ballot initiative that enshrines the right to abortion in the state constitution.

As part of its Power of Us campaign, OVOV AZ has pledged to knock on one million doors before Nov. 5 to engage with voters and boost turnout.

“We are proud to support Arizona Prop 139 because we trust women and their families to make their own healthcare decisions,” said Sena Mohammed, executive director for OVOV AZ. “Even before Arizona’s restrictive abortion ban went into effect, pregnant women of color faced numerous financial, geographical, and logistical barriers to high-quality reproductive healthcare. Prop 139 is about guaranteeing access to safe and legal abortion and putting the power back where it belongs: in the hands of women, not politicians.”

“The vast majority of Arizonans support abortion access and believe that decisions about pregnancy and abortion should be between a woman and her provider, not politicians,” said Laura Dent, campaign manager for Yes on Prop 139. “We are so grateful to support our partners in the field who are working tirelessly to engage and activate voters in every corner of the state. Together, they are making sure Arizonans get the information they need, in a language they speak, so that they know voting yes on Prop 139 is a vote to keep the government out of personal medical decisions.”

Arizona’s 2024 ballot will be the longest in state history. In addition to the presidential, U.S. Senate, and state legislature races, Arizonans will be asked to vote on 13 propositions, including Prop 139 to protect abortion access. In partnership with three other organizations in the Activate 48 coalition, OVOV AZ recently released a ballot guide urging voters to vote NO on every ballot initiative except 139.
