OVOV Executive Director Sena Mohammed Reacts to Harris-Trump Debate

In response to the first presidential debate of the 2024 election season, Executive Director Sena Mohammed issued the following statement:

“Tonight’s debate was like a crystal ball, giving voters a glimpse of two vastly different futures in America — and the stakes could not be higher. The choice Arizonans have to make is which America they want to live in — the America that works only for the wealthy and well-connected, or one that works for all of us?

“In Trump’s America, the government will decide what you do with your body. You will keep paying taxes, but the rich will get a break. Our brothers and sisters fleeing violence, hunger, and persecution abroad will be turned away with no protection or rounded up and incarcerated indefinitely. Black and Brown communities will continue to experience disproportionate rates of asthma and lung disease as Trump slashes the environmental regulations that protect our right to clean air.

“Kamala Harris paints a brighter portrait of America — we’re even more fired up to elect the first Black woman president than we were just two hours ago. In Harris’s America, the rich pay their taxes right alongside the rest of us. In her America, your body is yours. We are all entitled to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. New Americans have a path to citizenship. And everyone is entitled to safe, affordable housing and a good education. That’s a vision we can believe in. The future is ours to shape.”
